The History
For over 30 years the residents of Palomar Mountain have been working toward building a community center. Initial fundraising for the
project helped to produce what is now the Palomar Mountain Volunteer Fire Department (PMVFD).
In 2004, with the assistance of the Palomar Mountain Planning Organization, the Community Center of Palomar Mountain (CCPM), was formed as a
completely new entity. It is a registered IRS Code Section 501(c)4 tax exempt non-profit corporation. All of the design documents for the facility have been
accomplished by volunteer and gifted services.
The CCPM board felt that there were advantages to working under the control of the pre-existing PMVFD board
which owns the land and is a registered IRS Code Section 501(c)3 tax exempt non-profit organization. In early 2006, in a joint session of the two boards, the CCPM and PMVFD Boards formed an
Action Committee to spearhead the project and make it a reality.
